Meet the veterans and hear about the Woody’s Lodge project

Woodys Lodge Veterans Support at the Business Centre in BarryEvery year on the 11th of November is Armistice Day, popularly known as Remembrance Day in the UK. At The Business Centre in Barry, not only will you have the opportunity to pay your respects to those in the armed forces, and our veterans, but you can also hear about a new project, Woody’s Lodge, for veterans, that is being developed in the Vale of Glamorgan.

As written in The Glamorgan Gem recently, The Woody’s Lodge Management Board (WLMB) has been working to open the Woody’s Lodge Centre for veterans at RNR HMS Cambria. Woody’s Lodge, a much needed veterans’ centre in the Vale of Glamorgan, is named after, and commemorates the life of local Royal Marine, Paul ‘Woody’ Woodland, a member of the Special Boat Service, who died in October 2012 during a training exercise whilst preparing for deployment to Afghanistan.

Initial analysis has shown that there are more than 5,000 veterans residing in Barry alone with over 60 per cent of these residents, now over the age of 65 years, many of whom are possibly facing welfare, health and social problems.

“Woody’s Lodge will be there to offer companionship and direct signposting to agencies and organisations that offer required skilled support.

Chris Benson of Crystal IT, at The Business Centre Ltd, has arranged for the veterans of WLMB to come to use the Meeting Rooms and Conference Facilities at The Business Centre to tell us more about this extremely important project. It will be an opportunity for you to also meet with the veterans themselves and to show your respect for armed forces and veterans with the minute silence at 11am.
